How to Add a Forum to Your WordPress Website

A forum is a community space like Instagram or Facebook where users can discuss various topics. You can use a free WordPress theme like Beaver or build a classic looking forum using the default WordPress theme. Let’s dive into the tutorial.

Step 1: Select A Forum Theme

The first step is to select a forum theme. You have several options including Beaver, Bliss, and Solstice. If you choose Beaver, you can use the Lite or Pro version depending on your needs. You can browse through the many Beaver themes and choose one that suits your needs. You should also consider the look and feel of your forum. Do you want a traditional forum with high-quality images? Or would you rather go for a light background with clean text?

Step 2: Install And Activate The Theme

After you’ve chosen a theme, you need to install it on your WordPress website. To do this, click on the green button that says Install Now or click on the Use tab at the top of your WordPress admin area. Once the theme is installed, you can activate it. The default WordPress theme is already activated so you don’t need to do this but you can if you want to give the theme a new look.

Step 3: Create A User Account For Your Forum

If you’re planning on using a forum on your site, the next step is to create an account for your forum. An account is just like a username on other social media platforms. You’ll use this account to log into the forum whenever you want. When creating a new account, you should use a unique username that isn’t already in use on your site. Alternatively, you can use a pseudonym to keep your identity private. Your username should be between 3 and 15 characters long and should consist of only letters, numbers, and spaces. In addition, you can’t use a username that is a trademark or a registered trademark. If you choose to use a pseudonym, make sure to use a brand that isn’t already in use on the internet.

Step 4: Configure Your Forum Settings

After you’ve created a user account for your forum, you need to configure its settings. The first thing you should do is set the username and password for the account. Next, you’ll want to choose the theme for your forum. Once you’ve set up your username and password, you can return to the Settings page and choose either option. The first option is Basic. This is the simplest setting and it will provide you with a barebones forum experience. If you want, you can add more options like Polls, Galleries, or Rating. Don’t worry, these features are easy enough to add.

Step 5: Post Your First Topic

Your final step before you begin using the forum is to post your first topic. A topic is just like a question or statement that can be posted to an online forum. Once you’ve posted your topic, you can reply to other users’ comments on your topic or start a new topic.

That’s pretty much all there is to creating a forum on your WordPress website. You can use the built-in commenting system or turn to third-party tools like Disqus or Gravitest to provide enhanced functionality like polls and ratings. With these tools, you can also track discussions and replies across different topics or communities on your site.
