How to Add Google Analytics to Your WordPress Website

Ever wonder how to add Google Analytics to your WordPress website? This article will tell you exactly how.

Install Googles Analytics

Google Analytics is a free tool that you can use to track traffic, leads, and sales from your WordPress website. Analytics software programs like Google Analytics can be downloaded directly from the Google website.

To use the tool, simply visit the Google Analytics website and click on the Get Started button.

Then, pick a small sample of your site’s URL and click on Continue. You will then be taken to a page which will ask you to enter your website’s tracking code into the appropriate box. Copy this code and paste it into your website’s header (usually just above the

tag).

Create Custom Audiences & Action Items

While you can use the standard email list from your opt-in campaign to track the visitors to your site, you should consider whether or not you want to use this data to send people content that is custom tailored to their interests. Not only will you be able to see the interests of your site’s visitors, but you can also create custom audiences containing only visitors that have an interest in a specific topic or niche.

For example, you run a blog about fashion. If you notice that a large portion of your site’s traffic comes from Italy, you might decide to create an audience for italyans that are interested in fashion. You can then, send these italyans special deals on high-fashion items that you believe they will be interested in.

Creating custom audiences is fairly easy. Simply go to the “Audience” section of your Google Analytics and click on the Create Audience button. You can enter a description for this audience and pick a name for it.

Then, you can create a simple mailing list by entering the email addresses of your existing contacts. Alternatively, you can enter a URL to a collection of email addresses and select the From these addresses campaign type.

Track Website Traffic and Events

After you have created a new custom audience, you can start tracking website traffic and events. To track traffic to your site, you must first choose a referring source. There are three main ways to do this:

  • Internal
  • External
  • Direct.

The first step is to go to the “Traffic” tab of your Google Analytics and click on the button next to the source. Then, you can choose either Internal or External.

To choose an Internal source, go to the “Traffic Sources” section of your Google Analytics and click on the + icon next to the source. This will bring you to a page which lists all of your site’s sources. Choose one of these sources and click on it to bring you to a page which lists all of that source’s details.

Click on the Internal radio button to choose this option.

To choose an External source, go to the “Traffic Sources” section of your Google Analytics and click on the + icon next to the source. This will bring you to a page which lists all of your site’s sources. Choose one of these sources and click on it to bring you to a page which lists all of that source’s details.

Click on the External radio button to choose this option.

The next step is to choose a goal for your website’s tracking. Goals are like bucket lists for your website. You can set a goal for your website to track important information about the visitors’ experience (such as the number of pages viewed, time spent on the site, and the like).

Go to the “Goals” tab of your Google Analytics and click on the + icon next to the goal you want to track. This will bring you to a page which lists all of your site’s goals. Choose one of these goals and click on it to bring you to a page which lists all of that goal’s details.

Choose a goal that makes sense for your site. If you want to track how many people visit your site, you might choose the “Pageviews” goal. If you want to track how long your visitors spend on your site, you might choose the “Duration” goal. If you want to track the products your visitors view on your site, you might choose the “Product” goal.

You can find a list of the goals available for your site in the sidebar of your Google Analytics.

Start tracking events.

Once you have set a goal for your site, you can start tracking events. Events are basically anything that happens on your site that is not captured by a goal. For example, a user might view a product on your site and decide to purchase it. This would be considered an event, because it is something that happened on your site that you did not expect (the user viewed the product, and decided to buy it).

To start tracking events, go to the “Events” tab of your Google Analytics and click on the + icon next to the event you want to track. This will bring you to a page which lists all of your site’s events. Choose one of these events and click on it to bring you to a page which lists all of that event’s details.

The next step is to choose the actions you want to track for this event. This is where you will enter the tracking code that will track this event. When an action is tracked, it will be assigned a name and color. A user visiting your site, for example, might click on a blue button on your site and it will be assigned the name “Buy Product” and the color blue.

Enter the tracking code for this event into the appropriate box and click on the Save Events button.

Once you have added all of your site’s events and chosen a relevant color for each one, you can finally start viewing the results of your efforts.

Visit the Google Analytics dashboard and you will see a breakdown of your site’s traffic, along with a graph showing the number of events tracked over time. You can also click on any of the individual events to see further details, such as the actions taken and the color used for that button.

Optimize Your WordPress Settings

There are a number of settings that you can change on your WordPress site that can have significant effects on its performance. You can find a full list of these settings in the WordPress documentation (go to the Settings section of your WordPress dashboard and click on Optimize)).

For example, you can enable debugging to see detailed logs from your web server (go to the Settings section of your WordPress dashboard and click on Debug). You can also choose to serve different content to different users (go to the Settings section of your WordPress dashboard and click on Personal Content).

You can use the logs and reports from your web server to determine the settings that need to be changed on your WordPress site to improve its performance.

Visit the Google Analytics support page and click on the Get Started button to create a free account. Then, enter your website’s URL into the box provided and click on Continue. You will then be brought to a setup screen which will ask you to enter your website’s tracking code into the appropriate box. Copy this code and paste it into your website’s header (usually just above the

tag).
