How to Add a Pinterest Button to Your WordPress Website
Pinterest is one of the most popular social media platforms. The image-based social media platform allows users to ‘pin’ images that they find interesting or relevant to their own lives. As of September 2019, there were over 500 million monthly active users on the platform.
The fact that so many people use Pinterest means that there is a good chance that your target audience is already on the platform. Thus, adding a Pinterest button to your website to let your visitors follow you on Pinterest might seem like a no-brainer.
All You Need
In order to get started, you will need to get a free Pinterest account, create a new WordPress blog, and add the Pinterest sharing button to your blog’s header.
If you already have a WordPress blog, you can skip directly to adding the Pinterest button to your site’s header.
1. Get A Free Account
The first thing you need to do to add a Pinterest button to your site is to get a free account on the platform. To get started, you will need to visit https://www.pinterest.com/ and click on the Get Started button near the top of the website.
This will take you to the website’s welcome page. On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see a grey area with the words ‘Sign up with Facebook’ in it. Just below, you will see a blue button with the words ‘Get Started’ on it. Click on this button to continue to the platform’s dashboard.
On the dashboard, you will see a section called ‘Create a Board’ in the middle. To the right of this area, you will see a green button with the words ‘Go Live’ on it. Click on this button to begin using Pinterest. When you do, you will be taken to your own customised ‘Explore’ page. From here, you can start to build your own board filled with pins that interest you.
2. Create A Board
Once you are on the Pinterest dashboard, you will see a box at the top left of the screen with the words ‘What do you want to call your board?’ next to it. Type in the name of your board and press enter to create your board. Your board will then be displayed at the top of your dashboard (figure 1).

A private board does not appear in search results unless the user queries for it. A public board does not need to be private in order to be indexed by search engines.
7. Share Your Board’s Content
The final step in adding a Pinterest button to your website is to share your board’s content with your audience (figure 7). To do this, you will need to go to your WordPress dashboard, click on ‘Sharing’, and then click on the ‘Pinterest’ button that appears next to your blog’s name (figure 8).

Now that you have added a Pinterest button to your WordPress website, your audience can easily find your content on the platform. Your customers can also click on your board’s name to be taken directly to your board. Furthermore, when another user clicks on one of your pins, they will be taken to the source of the content, which is your blog.
Keep in mind that in order to benefit from this feature, you will need to follow the steps listed above. Make sure that you add the share button to your site’s header, create a new board, and then publish your board before sharing it with your audience. Doing so will enable you to take advantage of this feature.
