How to Create a WordPress Website and App for Free
If you’re looking to create a website with WordPress, you’ve come to the right place. WordPress powers some of the biggest websites on the internet, and the software is extremely easy to use. In this article, we’ll teach you how to create a WordPress website and app for free using the popular digital assistant, Google Sheets.
Set Up Your Google Sheets Account
Before you begin creating your WordPress website, you’ll first need to set up a Google Sheets account if you don’t have one already. You can use the free Google Sheets account for the purpose of this tutorial, but if you’d like to take advantage of all of Google’s services, you’ll want to consider paying for a premium account. You can always sign up for a free account when you’re logged in to your Google account, and if you don’t have one yet, you can create one now.
When you have your Google Sheets account set up, navigate to the “Settings” menu and then click on “Create a new spreadsheet.” In the “Name” section, enter “Free Website Builder” and then click on the “Create” button.
After a few moments, you will see your new spreadsheet named “Free Website Builder.” You can close this window and open up your WordPress site creation page.
Choose a Free Web Hosting Service
You’ll need a place to host your website, and for that, you can use any of the many free web host services such as Bluehost, WURFL, or Houseparty (just to name a few).
When you sign up for a free account with any of these web hosts, you’ll see a tab on the right side of the screen that reads “API.” Click this tab and you can access their “API” (Application Programming Interface) from which you can create a free WordPress website. Alternatively, you can use a third-party application such as Supersavvy or Xignite to create a WordPress website without having to write a line of code.
Install WordPress
In order to use WordPress to build your site, you’ll need to have the WordPress software installed on your computer. If you’re using Google Sheets for the purpose of this tutorial, you can download the WordPress software in a few simple steps by following these instructions. Alternatively, you can use your preferred CD/DVD drive to put the WordPress software on a disc and install it directly on your computer.
Lets say you’ve already set up your Google Sheets account and located your new spreadsheet named “Free Website Builder.” To begin creating your WordPress website, click on the big green “Create a new WordPress website” button that’s located at the top of your Google Sheets page.
After you click this button, you’ll have to enter a brief description of your site in the text box that appears. For the purpose of this tutorial, type “Lorem Ipsum” into the text box and then click the “Create” button.
After a few moments, you’ll see a window containing all the text you entered into the description box popup over your computer screen. It will look something like this:
- Name: Lorem Ipsum
- Description: A sample site built with WordPress
- Location: London
- Keywords: keyword, keyword, keyword
Add a Menu to Your WordPress Site
One of the first things you’ll want to do on your WordPress site is to add a menu. To do this, click on the “Menus” tab in the left-hand column of your WordPress dashboard. You can also find this option by visiting the “Tools” menu and then selecting “Options.” This will bring up a window with all of your site’s menus.]
From here, you can create new menus or edit existing ones. To add a new menu, click on the “Add new” button. You can repeat this process to add more menus if you’d like. When you’re finished, click on the “Plugins” tab and then the “Add new” button at the top of the screen to install the necessary WordPress plugins.
Set Up Your Login Details
You’ll need to set up your login details for your WordPress website. Type “admin” into the “Username” field and then click on the “Save” button.
You’ll then be taken to a page where you can set up a new password for the admin account. You can choose a password that is difficult to guess and ensure that it is at least eight characters in length. When you’ve set a new password, click on the “Save” button at the top of the page.
You’ll then be returned to the login page for your WordPress site. From here, you can click on the “Login” option and then click on the “Remember Me” button to save your login details. You can also set up a login option to automatically log you in to your WordPress site whenever you visit.

You can use this area of your site to add a background color, banner image, and text to create a unique blog experience for your audience. When you’re finished customizing the header area, click on the “Save” button at the top of the window to save your changes.
