How to Create an Amazing Website Using WordPress
WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) in the world. It is incredibly flexible and provides a lot of functionality which can be enhanced using various plug-ins, themes, and widgets.
If you are looking to create your own website using WordPress, then this short guide will help you achieve that goal. You’ll learn how to integrate WordPress functionality into your website via the use of several plug-ins. Additionally, you’ll be shown how to create a standalone mobile-friendly website using WordPress. At the end of this guide, you’ll have a fully functioning WordPress website that you can use as a reference for future projects.
Step 1: Sign Up For A Free WordPress Account
Before you can move on to the next step, you will need to have a WordPress account. You can create one at no cost simply by accessing the admin section of WordPress.com and registering an account. You can also use your Gmail account if you are logging into WordPress via a web browser.
Step 2: Install WordPress Plug-ins
Once you have your WordPress account, you can install the WordPress plug-ins that you need to make your site function the way you want it to. To do this, go into your WordPress admin area and click on the Plugins icon. You’ll see a screen like the one in the image below. Select the Install button next to the plug-in that you want to install.
You’ll be shown a screen informing you that the plug-in will be installed once you confirm the download. You’ll also need to click on the activate button to use the plugin. Once you have activated the plugin, you’ll be able to click on the + widget symbol that you see in the admin bar above.
Step 3: Customize The Look & Feel Of Your Site
Now that you have WordPress installed and activated, you can begin to customize the look and feel of your site. Go into the Appearance section of your WordPress admin area and click on the Customize link. On the next screen, you’ll see several options that allow you to change the general appearance of your site. You can add a header, footer, and sidebar. Additionally, you can change the theme color, the font, and the text size.
Step 4: Integrate Style From Blogger And Wix
You’ll now have WordPress installed and activated, and you’ve started to customize the appearance of your site. To add more style to your site, you can integrate blog and Wix styles. To do this, go into the Style tab at the top of the screen and click on the Choose button. You’ll then be taken to a screen with several options, as shown below where you can choose an existing template or create a new one.
If you aren’t sure which theme to choose, then click on the Preview button and the theme will be displayed in a new browser tab. You can then click on the download button to get the current (hosted) version of the template.
Step 5: Add Blogs And Articles
Once you’ve chosen a theme and started to customize the look and feel of your site, you can begin to add content. To do this, go into the Writing section of your WordPress admin area and click on the Add New button. You’ll then be taken to a short-form where you can add a title and some content. Once you’ve added content to your site, you can continue to add more blogs and articles using the same process. To add a blog, simply click on the Add New button, and a short form will appear where you can enter a blog name, blog url, and a few paragraphs of content.
When you’re done adding blogs and articles, you can click on the Update Posts button in the admin bar to have WordPress post the blog articles to your site. You can also click this button to add products that are available for purchase online via the use of affiliate links.
Step 6: Create A Homepage For Your Site
After you’ve added content to your site using the above steps, you can create a homepage for your site. To do this, go into the Design section of your WordPress admin area and click on the homepage icon. This will display a form where you can enter the content for your homepage. You’ll then see a preview of what you’ve entered on the right-hand side of the screen. If you’ve entered content that looks good, you can click on the blue Create button to have WordPress create the homepage for you.
Step 7: Test The Functionality Of Your Site & Tweak As Needed
Now that you have your blog and homepage created, you can test the functionality of your site and make any necessary modifications. Go back into the Admin area of WordPress and click on the Updates icon. You’ll then see the screen below where you can choose to view or toggle all the available updates or search only for critical or security updates.
From here you can click on the Update All button to have WordPress download and install all the available updates. You can also click on the Security button to view security-related updates only. Once you’ve updated your site with all the available patches, you can click the Save & Install button to commit the changes.
Step 8: Deploy The Final Version Of Your Site
Once you’ve tested the functionality of your site and made any necessary updates, you can deploy the final version of your site to a live server. To do this, go into the Dashboard of WordPress and click on the Settings icon. This will bring you to the Settings page where you can choose an FTP connection to commit the files to your site’s directory.
From here, you can upload and configure a premium-looking header for your site, as well as choose a custom background image for your site. You can then enter your site’s URL in the Target URL box and click the Save Changes button to save the updated settings to your site.
That concludes the short guide to creating a WordPress website. At this point, you’ll have a fully functioning WordPress website that you can use as a reference for future projects.
