Resizing the image will resolve the image upload issue in WordPress because the reason could be that the image is perhaps too huge. You can easily resize any image in an online or offline image editor.

The reason could also be that the image name special characters such as &, #, %, etc. The solution to the image upload issue in this case will be to rename the image in a simple form.

  1. Receiving File Size Errors

Being same as the above one, when your image or media file has the size bigger than the required size, you can see difficulty uploading the image or the file to your WordPress.

You can fix this issue by increasing the file size in your php.ini file (access this via an FTP) and paste this code in it:

upload_max_filesize = 128M
post_max_size = 128M
max_execution_time = 300

You can also consult your hosting provider to increase the file size limit for you.

  1. The Media Library Shows Blank

When you can’t see images, rather the library is blank whereas you had images in it, then the image upload issue is related to your upload folder. Here’s how to fix it:

  • Access your WordPress by FTP
  • Head to the wp-content folder
  • When inside the folder, open the Uploads folder
  • Right click on this folder and click File Permissions
  • Put 744 in the numeric value slot
  • Check the box saying “Recurse into subdirectories
  • Click “Apply to directories only
  • Click OK

Reload your file to see if the image upload issue is resolved.

  1. Receiving WordPress HTTP Error

The two main reasons of receiving an HTTP Error on your WordPress while uploading an image or video are 1. Multiple threads in the image processor, and 2. WordPress memory problems.

To resolve the first error, access the WordPress by FTP

  • Head to the htaccess file and paste this code:


  • Reload your file to see if the image upload issue is resolved.

To fix the second issue, access the WordPress by FTP

  • Head to the folder where your files are placed
  • Open the wp-config file and paste this code:

    define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘256M’ )

  • Reload your file to see if the image upload issue is resolved.
