In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a free website quickly and easily so that you can get started building your online presence for free.
The Benefits Of A Free WordPress Website
If you’re new to website design or programming, building a WordPress website can be a lot easier than you’d probably think. The platform is extremely accessible and easy to use, and you’ll find plenty of resources available online to help you get started. Not only will a WordPress website provide you with a fully-functional site that you can build upon, but you will also have access to a large community of WordPress users who can assist you with any questions you may have along the way.
WordPress offers a lot of advantages for anyone who is looking to build a website, whether you’re a beginner or a professional. It is a popular CMS, meaning that there are thousands of WordPress websites running successfully all over the world, which means that there is plenty of experience and knowledge available online for you to learn from.
Step 1: Install WordPress
The first step in creating a WordPress website is to install the platform on your web server. You will need to purchase a web hosting plan from an online provider, such as bluehost or godaddy, and install WordPress to it. You can’t run a WordPress website from within Google Drive or Dropbox, as the web server needs to be accessible from the web.
You can use WordPress to build a completely free website, but you will need to register for a free account on their official website in order to do so. Once you have registered, navigate to the “Account” menu on the left-hand side of the screen, and then click on the “Create New Site” button. This will walk you through the simple registration process.
Step 2: Choose A Theme
A theme is what gives your website its overall look and feel. The look of your website, including its header, footer, and content, is known as the ‘frontend’, while the backend is what controls the ordering of the pages and posts on your site. There are millions of themes available for WordPress, each with its pros and cons, so it’s important that you choose the right one for your needs.
The best way to find the right theme for your site is to look through the themes that are already available in the WordPress repository. To access the WordPress repository, navigate to Appearance → Themes in your dashboard. From here, you can either browse the themes that are available for download, or you can search for a specific theme by entering its name in the search bar at the top of the screen. If you find a theme that you like, click on it to view its demo site. This will give you an idea of how the theme will look when implemented on your website.
Step 3: Customize Your Theme
The next step in building your WordPress website is to customize the theme that you have chosen. To do this, navigate to Appearance → Themes in your dashboard, and click on the ‘Customize’ button located next to the theme that you have chosen. This will bring you to the Customize page for that theme. On this page, you can make changes to the theme, including changing its header, footer, and sidebar.
Changing the header and footer of your website is very simple. The header is the section of your website that displays on the top of every page, and the footer is the section at the bottom of every page which contains basic website information (i.e. copyright, privacy policy, and contact details). To change the header or footer of your site, simply click on either one of those elements on the Customize page and make the desired edits. You can also add a footer text link to the bottom of the page that leads to the footer area of your website.
Step 4: Add More Sections
Once you have completed editing the header and footer of your site, you can click on Save to save your work. You can now add more sections to your site by clicking on the plus icon located next to the ‘Weeks’ and ‘Days’ columns on the left side of the dashboard. This will display a section of forms that you can use to add more content to your site.
Step 5: Post Content
The final step in building your WordPress website is to post content. To do this, navigate to Appearance → Themes in your dashboard, and click on the ‘Post’ button located next to the theme that you have chosen. This will take you to the Post page for that theme. On this page, you can add a new post or edit an existing one by entering its details in the respective fields.
You can add a new post by clicking on the ‘Post’ button at the top of the page and filling out the form that will appear. You can add a title and content to your post and then click on the Publish button.
You can also edit an existing post by clicking on the ‘Edit’ button next to the post’s title and then entering its details in the respective fields. Once you have edited the content of a post, you can click on the Save button to save your work.
Now that you have a basic understanding of how to make a free WordPress website, let’s get started building your first blog.
