Can’t See My Site After Updating WordPress

If you’re reading this, it means you’ve updated WordPress today, and after the update your site doesn’t show up when you go to www.example.com or www.my-website.com. You’ll see an error message that looks like this:

  • Oops! It looks like something went wrong.
  • Saving…
  • …failed.
  • One of your plugins is preventing access to this page.
  • This error could be due to a number of reasons. Restarting your web server might solve the issue. If it doesn’t, you might have to contact your hosting provider.

What causes this issue, and how can I fix it? Let’s take a look.

WordPress Has Updated

Let’s start by saying that wordpress has updated. If you’ve ever gone to wordpress.com, you’ve probably noticed that the site has changed a bit. Now when you go there, you’ll see that the navigation bar on the left has changed. Instead of staying at the top on the page, it has been moved down. This means that if you’re used to seeing the navigation bar at the top, when you visit wordpress.com, your eyes will immediately jump to the bottom of the page to look for the blog posts.

The primary navigation at the top of the page is now the site logo and an About button. If you click on that About button, you’ll see a short blurb about what WordPress is and why you should use it.

There’s also a link at the bottom of the page to get started. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to launch your site, WordPress’s Getting Started page is the perfect place to start.

Why Can’t I See My Site After Updating WordPress?

After updating WordPress, your site should automatically come up. However, if it doesn’t, there are a few things you can try. If you already have a domain for your website (such as www.example.com or www.my-website.com), you can use that domain to try and go to www.example.com or www.my-website.com. If that doesn’t work, try going to example.com or my-website.com directly (without the www.). If you still can’t see your site, try clearing your browser’s cache and going through your site’s Settings to make sure everything’s set up right.

How Do I Get My Site Back?

If you followed the previous steps and you still can’t see your site, try the following:
