How to Build a Website Using WordPress – Without Hosting

People who’ve never built a WordPress site may wonder what all the noise is about. WordPress is the world’s #1 content management system (CMS), powering over 27 million websites across the globe. It’s the most popular choice for building a new site because it’s so easy to use and there are such a variety of pre-designed themes and plugins available to get you up and running in no time. In this article, we’ll teach you how to build a simple, but effective, WordPress site without using any hosting services! Let’s get started.

Get A Domain

When you have a domain name, you can create a website with a single click. Yourdomain.com will point to your website, allowing you to easily choose a web address for your business. For this tutorial, I’m assuming you already have a domain name (if not, you can purchase one from a web hosting company like Bluehost). To create a WordPress site, simply visit your domain’s dashboard and click the “Install WordPress” button. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Set Up Your Account

When you log in to your WordPress dashboard, you’ll see a tabbed menu on the left-hand side. Click on the “Users” tab to access your site’s user account settings. You can create a new user by clicking on the “+” sign in the top right-hand corner. You’ll see a drop-down menu with three choices: administrator, editor, and contributor. You can choose to make this user a super-admin, editor, or contributor. A super-admin is someone with complete control over the WordPress site. An editor has complete control over content that appears on the site. A contributor can post stories and other content, but doesn’t have as much control as the other two user types.

Choose A Theme

The themes available for WordPress are incredible, and they’re all free. You can get started building your site using one of the many pre-designed templates, or you can download a completely free template from WordPress.org. For this tutorial, we’ll use a pre-designed template called “Business” by ThemeRiver. Business is a multipurpose template that can be used for a variety of sites. It’s extremely easy to use and already has a great deal of functionality built in (like a drag & drop page builder, live customizer, etc.). Just click on the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner of your dashboard, and select “Use this theme for all posts” to use it for your site’s content.

Install WordPress Plugins

WordPress comes with a lot of built-in functionality, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use plugins to expand its capabilities. There are a variety of plugins that can be used to enhance your WordPress site’s functionality. For instance, if you use Google Analytics for your site, you can connect the two to see a list of all your site’s visitors and their previous pages. You can use the built-in “Instagram” plugin to pull in Instagram content into your blog (such as a featured photo on your blog’s home page). Or, if you have a large amount of content that you want to organize in a way that’s easy for your readers to find, you can use a WordPress plugin called “Trello” to create a Kanban board — similar to a to-do list but with visual elements that make it fun to use.

Create Your Blog’s Home Page

A home page is something that makes a blog stand out. When someone comes across your blog in their search results, they’ll quickly be able to tell what kind of content it offers just by looking at your home page. To create a stunning home page for your blog, use the built-in WordPress homepage tool. Simply go to your site’s dashboard and click on the “Appearance” tab. You’ll see a section called “Home” on the left-hand side. Click on the “Home” button to bring up the homepage customization options. Choose a homepage template from the drop-down, and click the “Save Changes” button.

That’s it! You now have a fully functioning WordPress site with a beautiful home page.

Make Sure Your Site Has Everything It Needs

WordPress is a complete content management system, which means it has all the tools you need to build and maintain a website. However, this also makes it incredibly versatile, as all you need is a computer and an Internet connection to get started. Once you have your site up and running, you can access its backend (where you’ll really be working) and make any necessary adjustments to its content. If you do have an existing website that you want to convert to a WordPress site, you can use tools like GoDaddy’s easy web hosting service to launch your new site in no time.
