How to Build a WordPress Website on Your Own Domain

If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to create a professional-looking website with a strong online presence, then you’ve come to the right place! In this tutorial, you’re going to learn how to build a simple but effective blog using the popular WordPress content management system.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) available today. It was first launched in 2005 and is currently owned by New York-based software company, Automattic. WordPress is free to use, but offers a premium service called WooCommerce that provides storefront functionality and allows for more features.

WooCommerce is currently one of the best eCommerce platforms for small businesses and independently-run websites. It’s user-friendly, secure and equipped with all the features you need to launch a successful online store. And, at the time of writing, WooCommerce accepted payments through all the major credit cards and PayPal.

Why WordPress?

WordPress continues to dominate the CMS segment not only because of its popularity, but also because of its incredible extensibility. Thanks to the WordPress community, which is made up of hundreds of thousands of active contributors, new features are added to the platform on a regular basis.

WordPress is also one of the most secure content management systems available. All major passwords are hashed using one-way encryption, meaning even if someone gets access to your WordPress account, they won’t be able to use your password to access any other site or account. Finally, WordPress is highly customizable, which allows you to have full control over the look and feel of your website.

Getting Started With WordPress

To get started with WordPress, you first need to register for a free domain name and create a new account. If you already have a website or blog, you can use WordPress to extend its functionality to create a fully-functioning eCommerce store. Once you’ve registered your domain, navigate to https://wordpress.com/ and click on the Get Started button to continue to the WordPress dashboard.

On the next screen, you’ll see lots of different ways to use WordPress – ranging from a simple blog to a fully-fledged store. If you’ve never used WordPress or eCommerce before, go with the basic option and start a blog. Once you’ve started a blog on your own domain, you can explore the many features and functionality of WordPress to fully customize your site.

Setting Up Your WordPress Blog

A WordPress blog is a great way to get started. It’s an economical platform, free to use and easy to customize. To create a basic WordPress blog, click on the Blog option on the dashboard.

On the next screen, you’ll see a form asking you to enter a title for your blog. Next to it, you’ll see a field labeled Post Content or Post Area. This is where you’re going to enter your blog’s content—the text and media that you publish on your site. Anything you post here will be displayed on your blog’s home page. To enter a new post, navigate to https://wordpress.com/ and click on the Post button in the top right corner.

A WordPress post consists of several different elements, including the text, images, video, and a description of what the post is about. To add an image to your post, click on the Visual editor button on the toolbar above the post’s content area. A small image uploader will appear.

To add a visual editor to your toolbar, navigate to Appearance on the left menu and select Toolbars. Next, click on the + button to add the visual editor to your toolbar.

Once you’ve added the visual editor to your toolbar, you can click on the Add button to add images, videos or other files to your post.

Customizing Your WordPress Blog’s Home Page

In addition to adding posts to your WordPress blog, you can also use the platform to create and manage your site’s home page, which is basically a fancy blog’s front page. To create your blog’s home page, navigate to Appearance on the left menu and select Header. Then, on the right, you’ll see a section labeled Blog. To specify the elements you want featured on your blog’s home page, click on the Features tab and then select the Blog option.

The next screen will ask you to enter a theme for your blog’s home page. To do this, you’ll need to visit the WordPress repository and download a theme that suits your needs. Alternatively, you can select Twenty Fifteen, which is one of the official WordPress themes.

Creating A Product Listing Page For WooCommerce

If your business sells products online, then you can use the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress to create a fully-featured eCommerce store. With WooCommerce, you can add products from the WordPress dashboard, import products from external sources like eBay or Etsy, and create a shopping cart where customers can easily purchase your products. To create a product listing page for WooCommerce, navigate to Products on the left menu of the dashboard and click on the Add New button.

On the next screen, you’ll see a form asking you to enter a title for your product’s page. Then, below it, you’ll see a field where you can enter the detailed description of your product. To add more images of the product, click on the Visual editor button on the toolbar above the content area and a small image uploader will appear.

To add more product information, click on the Edit button next to the product’s name and enter product details such as the brand, model number and category. Then, on the right, you’ll see the shipping details, payment methods and tax amounts. You can also set a promotional code to be displayed on your product’s page.

Customizing The WooCommerce Dashboard

Once you’ve added the WooCommerce plugin to your WordPress blog, you can access its properties from Settings > Shop. On the left, you’ll see Dashboard, which is basically the shop owner’s face. It’s here you can access all the functions of your store including shipping, sales, taxes and more.

To fully customize the dashboard, click on the Settings tab and then on the Reading option. Here, you can choose which widgets to display on the dashboard.

Creating Your First Post In WordPress

After you’ve set up your WordPress blog with a basic home page and added some products to it, it’s time to post some content! To post a new entry to your blog, navigate to https://wordpress.com/ and click on the Post button in the top right corner.

On the next screen, you’ll see a form asking you to enter a title for your post. Next to it, you’ll see a Post Content field where you can enter the text of your post. Finally, below it, you’ll see the Tags field where you can enter the keywords or phrases that you want included in the search engine results for your blog post. To add more keywords or phrases, click on the Add button and then on the Aa icon, which is the search box. Then type in the keywords or phrases you wish to target and click on the Save button.

Once you’ve entered your post’s content and chosen the right theme for your blog, it’s time to publish it! Click on the Publish button to do this. Your post will then be displayed on your blog’s front page and other websites will be able to find it if they perform a search using Google or a similar search engine. To preview your post, scroll down and you’ll see a link to https://wordpress.com/post/. Click on this link to go to your blog’s post page and then click on the Read More button.
