How to Create a Mobile Website in WordPress in 2 Minutes
I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for ways to consume media on-the-go. Whether I’m listening to music, watching TV, or reading a book, my phone is always in my hand. And now that smartphones and tablets are essentially extensions of our minds, I want my content to be accessible and easy to find on-the-go as well.
Luckily for you, and myself, there’s a fairly simple way to create a mobile website in WordPress. All you need is a phone or tablet and a laptop or computer. Plus, you’ll need to sign up for a free WordPress account to begin with.
Step 1: Choose Website Theme
The first step is to choose a WordPress theme. There are dozens, if not hundreds of themes available to choose from, but not all of them are made equal. Some of them are literally just as complex as HTML, which can become extremely frustrating if you’re not technologically inclined. Or, you could choose a very basic theme, which might be simple enough for a complete beginner, but lack the features that you need for your site. Think of this as choosing a car: you want something that handles well, and has the features you need to get where you need to go, but you don’t want to pay for extra features that you don’t need.
In order to create a mobile website, you first need to choose a theme that is mobile-friendly. In order to do this, you’ll want to look for themes that are responsive (i.e. Mobile-friendly). Once you’ve determined that the theme is responsive, you can begin exploring the rest of its features. Most themes allow you to customize the look and feel of your site, as well as integrate various functionality, such as social media connections, events calendars, and more.
Step 2: Install WordPress
Now that you have your theme chosen and installed, it’s time to install WordPress. To do this, visit the WordPress.com website and click on ‘Get WordPress’ (or ‘Download WordPress’ on mobile devices). Once you’re on the WordPress installation page, click on the ‘Get Started’ button to continue. Name the blog, click on the ‘Install WordPress’ button, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Installing WordPress is pretty straightforward. After you click on the ‘Install WordPress’ button, you’ll see a screen that looks like this:
You can now begin setting up your WordPress site. From the Blogger dashboard, click on the ‘Add New’ button and then click on ‘Create Blog’ to begin the process. Name the blog and set the blog’s theme (this should match the theme you chose for your WordPress site). Then, click on the ‘Publishing’ tab to begin adding content to your blog.
In the next section, you’ll learn about a few of the most popular ways to add content to your mobile website. We’ll go over the basic components of a blog post, how to build a robust backlink profile, and more.
Step 3: Add Content To Your Blog
Your WordPress blog will be your online portfolio. You can use it to share your work with the world, as well as build a reputation as an expert in your industry. Your blog’s content will determine its popularity and relevance to other individuals and companies who are researching information online. In general, the more relevant and interesting your content is, the more people will want to read it.
To get started, simply click on the ‘Add New’ button in the upper right-hand corner of the Blogger dashboard. Then, select the topic you’d like to write about and click on the ‘Post’ button.
The next page that appears will be your blog post. From here, you have two options: you can either continue adding content to this post, or you ‘Draft’ a new post and come back to this one later.
To add more content to your post, simply click on the ‘+’ icon (next to the ‘Post’ button), or, to create a new blog post, click on the ‘New Post’ button. Your post will then appear on the blog’s home page, along with other articles published by your blog’s author.
One of the most important things to keep in mind when adding content to your blog is the relevancy of your content. Does your post answer a question that people have? Does it provide information that is useful and/or entertaining?
If you’re writing a technical post, include as much relevant information as possible. This will help make your post as valuable as possible to your target audience. Remember, people online are generally looking for information, so make sure that your posts are full of good content that will interest and inform your readers.
To add a bit more value to your post, consider creating and curating content for your blog that is as unique as possible. This will help make your blog stand out from the rest.
Step 4: Publish Your Blog
Once you’ve added content to your blog, it’s time to publish it. To do this, click on the ‘Publish’ tab on the top right-hand side of the dashboard. Then, select the ‘Post’ you’d like to publish and the ‘Choose a category’ option to set the blog post’s category. Finally, click on the ‘Publish’ button.
Your blog will then be published and accessible to the world, or at least the internet. To further optimize your blog for internet searches, consider editing your post’s content and adding relevant keywords where you can. In order to find the right keywords, head to the ‘Search’ tab on the top right-hand side of the dashboard and enter your blog’s URL in the ‘URL’ field. Then, click on the ‘Search’ button to see a list of suggested keywords.
Some people prefer to use a service like Google Keyword Planner, which can help you find the right keywords without having to enter your blog’s URL manually. If you decide that this is the path you want to go down, you can create a ‘Keyword Planner Review’ in your account’s dashboard to get started.
Once you’ve published your blog, it’s time to begin establishing it as an authority in your industry. The easiest way to do this is by building a robust backlink profile. Backlinks are links pointing to your blog from other websites. If someone is looking for information on, for example, SEO or blogging, and happens to land on your blog, they’ll likely be encouraged to stay and read more. In order to gain these backlinks, you’ll want to establish yourself as an expert in your industry and provide useful information that will be valuable to your audience.
Backlinks aren’t everything, but they are an important part of the equation. In order to gain popularity and relevance in your industry, you must establish yourself as an expert in the field and provide people with useful information that they can’t find else where. The more unique and authoritative your content is, the more likely it will stand out and be valuable to your target audience.
Step 5: Promote Your Blog
Now that your blog is established, it’s time to begin promoting it. The easiest way to do this is by sharing it with as many people as possible. The more people who know about your blog, the more likely it will continue to be seen as an expert and be relevant to others in your industry.
In order to share your blog with the world, you have two options: you can either do this manually, by sharing it on social media or through email, or you can use a service like Google Blogger to get this done automatically.
To begin, go to the Blogger dashboard and click on ‘My Blog’ (top right-hand corner). From here, you can either click on the ‘Sharing’ tab to begin sharing your blog manually or, if you’d like to have your blog shared automatically, click on the ‘Options’ link at the top right-hand corner of the page to open the Blogger options menu.
Once you’ve opened the Blogger options menu, you can click on ‘Automatically Share My Blog on Twitter’ to have your blog shared automatically on Twitter. Then, you can click on the ‘Create Blog Buzz’ button to have your blog shared on a number of other major social media platforms, including Facebook, Pinterest, and Google Plus.
