How to Launch a New Page on WordPress to Your Website

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know that I often write about my travels. After 16 years of exploring the world and bumping into wonderful people and adventures along the way, it feels great to finally be able to document some of the incredible places and events I’ve been fortunate enough to see. But with family and friends constantly asking if I’ve launched my travel blog yet, the question is how do I want to present myself to the world now that I’m finally ‘going solo’ as a blogger?

The answer is simple. I want to keep doing what I’ve always done and use my blog to spread my global adventures and stories from the road. That means keeping my readership small but dedicated and growing my audience one reader at a time. It also means that I need to keep working hard to produce engaging content that will draw in and retain potential new readers.

But that doesn’t mean I want to limit myself to one website or channel. The opportunities for digital nomads and digital entrepreneurs are endless. If I’ve learned anything over the years it’s that you should never, ever be afraid to try something new. Which is why when I decided it was time to finally launch my travel blog, I did so on WordPress. Not only is it one of the most popular content management systems out there but it also provides tons of useful tools that I could leverage to grow my blog and brand.

Why WordPress?

I started my WordPress journey back in 2011 when I decided it was time to write my life story and wanted an easy way to pull it together. I didn’t want to write it in a word processor and then have to go back and format it. So I looked at the various online story writers and checked out their work. From there I stumbled upon a WordPress tutorial and within a few hours I had a functioning blog. It was so easy to use and I was able to write my life story in the format I was used to and without needing help from anyone.

Since then, I’ve never looked back. WordPress has been a great solution for all my blog needs and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking to create a new blog or who’s been thinking about ditching their existing blog platform.

What To Watch Out For

Even with all the awesome benefits that WordPress offers, there are a few things you need to be mindful of. The first is security. Since WordPress is a fairly popular platform, it’s always going to be on the radar of hackers. So make sure that you keep your WordPress website as secure as possible, limit access to only those people who really need to be there and update your plugins and themes regularly to stay ahead of the curve. You can also use tools like LastPass to create secure passwords and keep track of them so if anyone does get hold of your login details, they’ll have a tough time using them.

Another thing to watch out for is compatibility. Just because you can run WordPress on your computer or device doesn’t mean that all your blog’s plugins and themes are going to work seamlessly together. The good news is that WordPress is very compatible across different devices and operating systems. The bad news is that sometimes the opposite is also true so make sure you do your research before launching any new blog on WordPress.

Setting Up A New Blog On WordPress

Let’s get to the good stuff now… Setting up a new blog on WordPress is incredibly easy. All you need is a reliable Internet connection, a WordPress account and the desire to write. Once you have those three things, creating a new blog is as simple as clicking a few buttons in a WordPress dashboard.

The first thing you’ll want to do is log into your WordPress dashboard. If you don’t have one, you can create one for free. Just visit the WordPress dashboard and click on the ‘Create a new dashboard’ link in the top right corner. You’ll then be presented with a list of options. From there, you can select the theme you want to use for your new blog.

The second thing you’ll want to do is log into your WordPress account. If you don’t have one, you can create one for free. Just visit the WordPress account area and click on the ‘Create a new account’ link in the top right corner. Give your new account a username and password and click on the ‘Create profile’ link. You’ll then be presented with a login screen. Use the password you created to log in.
