How to Link a Bootstrap Studio Website to a WordPress Site
A Bootstrap Studio website is a beautiful and fully functioning web page that you can use to display an online store, portfolio, or just about anything else. These sites are perfect for photographers, designers, and other creative professionals who want to showcase their work. They don’t require any special software or design skills to implement, and they look great regardless of what device is being used to view the page.
While it’s fairly easy to link a Bootstrap Studio site to a WordPress site (to launch a shop, for example), it’s not as easy to actually get the page to display content from the WordPress site. You’ll want to use the Custom HTML feature, which comes with WordPress, to pull in content from external sources. This tutorial will walk you through the process of using Bootstrap Studio to easily link a WordPress site, and the steps needed to get the most out of the platform.
Custom HTML
One of the unique features of Bootstrap Studio is that it comes with the Custom HTML plugin. When you install this plugin, you’ll see a new menu option appear in the WordPress dashboard that will allow you to choose from several HTML types (including Twitter’s Auto-embed feature).
This feature is really useful when you’re using a free WordPress service like WordPress.com or GitHub to create and publish your blog or website. If you’re using a premium WordPress service like Studio Press or Wix, you can still use the feature by registering for the Custom HTML plugin on Github.
When you choose Custom HTML, the WordPress dashboard will load a small box containing the HTML code for your blog or website. All you have to do is enter the content you want to appear and click Save. Then visit your blog or website and you should see the content you just created appear.
You can use this feature to display articles from a variety of sources, including your own company’s blog, a third-party’s blog, or a magazine’s website. You can use the Custom HTML option to pull in information from these sources and implement it on your own blog or website.
Bootstrap Studio Gallery
Another great feature of Bootstrap Studio is its built-in galleries. These allow you to display images from your phone, computer, or other devices on your website. You can use the galleries in two ways:
- To display products in a variety of sizes, including Square and Hero Images, which are ideal for displaying products on a physical storefront.
- To display any type of content you want, including articles, blog posts, and more.
You can create a beautiful storefront just by using the galleries and some of their built-in features, like the size adjustment and light box backgrounds.
The first point of reference when using the Bootstrap Studio galleries is to ensure that the images in the grid are of a suitable size for the target device. For example, if you’re creating a website for a mobile game, the images in the gallery should be 96×96 in order to fit the screen. You can always crop the images once they’re uploaded to the site. Additionally, since the bootstrap grid is based on a 12-column layout, the images should also be 12×12 in order to keep the layout intact.
Navigation Bar
A navigation bar is an essential part of any blog or website and helps users easily browse content. Bootstrap Studio includes a variety of styled navigation bars that you can use on your site. If you visit the site’s homepage, you’ll see several examples of these bars, including a minimalistic look, hamburger menus, and more.
The easiest way to add a navigation bar to your blog or website is to visit the dashboard’s Appearance section and click on the Add New button. From there, you can select Navigation from the list of available styles.
Once you’ve added the bar, you can configure it with your desired link structure (breadcrumbs or not) and brand identity (logo or not). You can also change the bar’s color using the Primary and Secondary options in the Color Pickers.
Keep in mind that if you don’t include the Primary and Secondary options, your navigation bar’s color will be based on the colors you’ve selected for your website’s layout.
To add a bit more style to your navigation bar, you can install one of the many third-party extensions for WordPress that will add additional features and options. Some of these extensions include:
- Custom Menus – Adds a drop-down menu to your site’s header.
- Instagram Widget – Adds an Instagram widget to your site’s sidebar.
- Timeline – Adds a chronological list of links to your site’s sidebar.
- Social Links – Adds social media links to your site’s sidebar.
- Product Detail Pages – Creates individual product pages for each product.
- Vertical Navigation – Enables users to browse content from top to bottom.
Post Format Selector
If you’re using the Blogger platform, you’ll need to install the Selective Publishing plugin to be able to post and format articles the way you want. This plugin allows you to choose from several post formats, including Blog post, Status update, Ship it, Photo gallery, and more. You can choose the post format that’s best for your content and adjust the settings, like the blog headline and social media links, as needed.
The first step is to visit the Add New section in WordPress’ dashboard and click on the Selective Publishing button to install the plugin. Once installed, you can click on the Settings icon to view the options for this plugin.
Here, you can choose from several themes that will help you stylize your blog or website. If you select Luxury, for example, you’ll see some beautiful light box backgrounds and overlay images that you can use to create a luxurious appearance.
Responsive Design
Bootstrap Studio was designed to be used on phones, tablets, and desktops. To make sure your site looks the same on all these devices, you need to use the responsive design features built into WordPress. These features allow you to set a specific width for each section of your site (like your main content area or comments section) and ensure that the content inside stays aligned and doesn’t break apart on different devices.
To start, click on the Dashboard icon in the WordPress toolbar to open the WordPress dashboard. Then, click on the Settings icon and select Reading from the drop-down menu.
From here, you can set the width of the reading area to Fixed, Free-Floating, or Fill. Fixed is the most traditional option and will keep your content aligned and the same width on all devices. If you have a wide display (like a large-screen TV) on your desktop, you can choose the Free-Floating option so that the content adjusts horizontally to fit the screen.
If you have a narrow display (like a smartphone) for your desktop, you can choose the Fill option so that content takes up the entire width of the screen.
Once you’ve set the reading area’s width, you can click on the Save button to save your settings.
Accessible Rich Content
Another great feature of Bootstrap Studio is that it allows you to use HTML5 elements and CSS3 styles to create accessible and rich content on your site. This content is great for users with disabilities who want to explore your site’s content without having difficulty doing so.
