How to Sync Your Google Calendar with WordPress

You wake up one day and decide that you want to take a different route with your life. You want to retire at a young age and enjoy life on the water. So you quit your job, sell your house, and move to a fishing boat in the Mediterranean. Now what do you do? You need a way to keep in touch with the outside world, and you decide that a WordPress blog is just what you need. You begin to plan your blog’s content, and it hits you: you should sync your Google calendar with WordPress. The idea of having all your schedule information available at your fingertips seems too good to be true, and you begin to see the advantages.

There are many reasons why you might want to sync your Google calendar with WordPress. Maybe you’re thinking of becoming a full-time blogger and want to be able to post articles about your favorite hobbies and interests. Or maybe you just want to keep everyone updated on your progress as you embark on a new journey of self-discovery.

No matter why you want to do it, WordPress makes the process surprisingly simple. In this article, you’ll learn about the different ways that you can sync your Google calendar with WordPress.

The Basics

Before you begin your sync process, you’ll need to make a few preparations. First, sign in to your Google account and authorize WordPress to access your data. Second, you’ll need to create an empty WordPress account. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through the process step-by-step.

Creating an account doesn’t take long, but it’s important that you do it correctly. Google requires you to use a valid email address and to verify your account. Once you’ve done that, click on the Continue button and you’ll be taken to your WordPress dashboard. On the left-hand side of the page, you’ll see the various options you have for syncing your Google calendar with WordPress. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar is one of the most popular services for keeping track of your schedules. It’s one of the most popular services among busy people because it handles all the heavy lifting for you. You enter the events you’re planning and Google Calendar will take care of the rest. So it’s the perfect service for people who want to keep their schedules flexible.

You can sync your Google calendar with other services, like Outlook or Apple’s iCal, with a few clicks of the mouse. Simply select the calendars you want to sync and click on the button that says Synchronize. Then you’ll be taken to a page that confirms your selection and gives you the option of whether you want to sync your Google contacts as well. Most people find that having both contacts and calendars synchronized is a good idea because it means anyone can contact you easily and you have all the important dates and information at your fingertips. You can also set up repeating events and alarms so you never miss an important appointment.

There are two ways to view your Google calendar: from the homepage or from an event listing. You can get to the event listing by clicking on the three bars at the top of the Google Calendar homepage and choosing Show option from the drop-down menu. You can then click on any date to see the events scheduled for that day. If you want to view your Google calendar from the homepage, you can either click on the three bars at the top of the page or click on the icon that looks like a tiny bell next to any date. This will take you to the event listing where you can see all the dates and events scheduled for that day.

It’s important to note that your Google calendar doesn’t sync with WordPress the way you’d expect it to. When you click on the button that says Synchronize, you’ll get a message that says “Your calendar has been successfully synchronized. You have a total of 12 events scheduled between now and next year.” Meaning you have 12 events scheduled for 2019, one for every month except December. You won’t have any events in December because the last day of the year is a Sunday and Google doesn’t sync on Sundays. So when you have events scheduled on December 31st, they’ll be repeated in the following month.

The issue with Google Calendar is that when you sync it, it doesn’t necessarily sync all the details about each event. For instance, if you have an event named “Family Dinner”, it will only show you the date of the dinner and not the time of day. The same thing goes for any other event you might enter. The time of day is always shown, but the date is not unless you click on the event to see the full details. This can be a real pain if you want to keep track of all the details about an event.

iCal

The other popular service for keeping track of your schedules is iCal, the iPhone’s calendar app. It has gained in popularity because of its simple to use interface. You can enter the events you’re planning, and all the necessary details will be filled in for you. You don’t even have to touch the iPhone to use iCal—the app will sync itself when you open the calendar on your iPhone.

iCal has two views, just like Google Calendar: a monthly view and a day view. The difference is that when you click on the button that says Monthly View, it will give you a full month’s worth of events. So if you want to see your entire schedule at once, you’ll have to click on the day view and then change the date to a month-by-month view. You can do this by clicking on the date at the top of the iCal monthly view and choosing a different date from the drop-down menu. Doing this for every single month is a pain, so most people just use the monthly view and ignore the rest.
