What’s the Difference Between Minimal Black and White Websites and WordPress?

If you’re looking to create a website for your business but don’t have the budget to hire a developer, you have two options. You can either do it yourself using free software like WordPress or have someone else do it for you using a minimal black and white template. Which one you should choose depends on your needs and what you’re comfortable with. Here’s the difference.

Cost Effective

When you have a limited budget, the last thing you want to do is spend money on something that’ll end up not being useful to you. For that reason, hiring a developer to build you a fully functioning WordPress website might be out of the question. You can get a simple, cheap, yet effective solution in the form of a minimal black and white website. Better yet, you can use a service like Squarespace or Wix to get a professionally designed website for free!

Fully functioning WordPress sites are great, but they also cost you money. You might decide that because of your budget, you cant afford the additional features that WordPress provides. When that happens, you can use a simple HTML file with just a couple of text fields to get your site up and running. That is its simplest form. No graphics, no style sheets, no backend settings. Just basic text formatting and some light HTML.

While not the most secure method of doing business, a minimal black and white site is still considerably more secure than trying to do business over the phone or via email because hackers and cybercriminals can track those forms of communication. A simple text based website is far more difficult to hijack or hack.

User Friendly

A WordPress website allows you to add new content and features easily. You can get a professional looking blog with hundreds of thousands of visitors per month for free with WordPress. Just make sure you have a dedicated server to host your blog. If you have a limited budget, you can opt for a free WordPress trial that comes with a limited number of blogs. Otherwise, you can get a simple, basic hosting package from any of the reputable web hosting companies like GoDaddy, Bluehost, or AWS and install WordPress manually.

If your main goal is to have your business show up on Google when someone searches for your product or service, you should go with WordPress. You can also use plugins like Yoast or All-in-One SEO to make your WordPress site SEO friendly and get to the top of the search results on major search engines like Google.

If your business is purely informational in nature and you don’t want to create a blog with WordPress because you think it’ll be too much work, you can opt for a fully functioning blank website. Just remember that a blank website is a step further down the road to web design freedom than a minimal black and white one, as graphics play a bigger role in the overall look and feel of a website. You can use a tool like Squarespace to get a blank website with a professional layout and some awesome features like A/B testing and split testing to see which layout works best for your target audience.

If you’re looking for a cost-effective option and don’t want to go the DIY route, a minimal black and white site will give you great performance at a low price point. That’s a winning combination in my book.
