How to Publish Your WordPress Website
If you run a website on WordPress, then you know how challenging it can be to get the word out about your website. You can put up all the content in the world, have the perfect design, and use the most amazing plugins, but until someone finds your site through a search engine or gets lucky and lands on your homepage, you’re not going to make any money or gain any popularity.
Thankfully, there’s a solution.
You just need to know how to publish your website.
In this article, I’m going to give you a complete guide to publishing your WordPress website, including everything from setting up your Shopify store to promoting your website using social media.
The Basics
Before you start putting up content or making any other changes to your website, it’s important to really understand the basics. What are you publishing? Why are you publishing this content? What do you want the reader/viewer to do?
These are all important questions that you need to ask yourself before you start anywhere else with your WordPress website. If you’ve never done so, then it can be a little overwhelming trying to figure out where to start.
If you want to publish your WordPress website, then the first thing to do is to visit WordPress.com and create a free account. Once you have your account, you can click on the Dashboard icon and then click on Settings.
If you’re viewing this article on a desktop or laptop computer, then you’ll see a screen similar to this one:
As you can see, the WordPress dashboard is where you’ll find all the information you need to get started. At the very least, you’ll need to set up a title for your blog post, a description, and some tags.
From the dashboard, you can click on the Settings gear icon and then select Reading from the menu that appears. This will open up a secondary menu where you can choose Blog settings. You’ll then need to set your posts to be published on a regular basis and decide how you want to schedule them.
You’ll also need to make sure that your WordPress website is secure. If you visit any other website that you’ve published content on, then you’ll notice that there’s a little padlock icon next to the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) next to the address bar. This means that your browser is encrypting the data that you’re sending to that website. Your connection to that website is secure, so you can rest assured that your personal information is not at risk.
Shopify
If you run a store or shop on Shopify, then you know that they offer a variety of marketing tools to help you grow your business. Among these tools is a blog reader that you can use to get the word out about your website.
When you install the blog reader on your Shopify dashboard, you’ll be able to click on the Settings icon and select Blogs from the menu. You can then choose the blog you want to use and start posting content to it immediately.
If you already have a blog that you’ve been meaning to publish on Shopify, then this is the perfect opportunity to do so. All you need to do is find the right theme for your blog and then add your content to it. If you want to add a little something extra, like trying out a new blog post theme or adding a bit of decoration, then you can do so easily without any coding knowledge.
Decoration
If you have a little bit of extra time, then you can use some of that time to add a little decoration to your WordPress website. There are hundreds of free and premium plugins that you can use to add a little something extra to your website. Some of the more popular plugins that you can use are:
- Apex – An award-winning WordPress plugin that allows you to create and design beautiful floating pop-ups, called Card boxes that will draw attention to your website.
- Bloom – Adds live flowers and plants to your WordPress website.
- Chosen – WordPress plugin that automatically chooses a theme for you based on the contents of your website.
- Elevate – Adds a high-end, luxurious look and feel to your WordPress website.
- Filter – Allows you to choose a specific background, typography, and color scheme for the text on your website.
- Freeway – Enables you to create a carousel-type effect. With this plugin, you can choose how many items to include in the carousel, what speed to run it at, and whether or not to rotate the images.
- Hide & Seek – WordPress plugin that replaces your content with hidden texts and images that you can reveal by clicking on them.
- Pixlr – Adds stickers, shapes, and illustrations to your WordPress website.
- Slider Revolution – Enables you to create an eye-catching carousel-style effect on your WP blog.
- Superslider – Allows you to create a slide show using your photos and videos from your phone or computer.
- Vogue – Adds stylish theme options, color schemes, and background textures to your WordPress website.
As you can see from the list above, there are literally dozens of different plugins that you can use to add a bit of decoration to your WordPress website. If you have a specific type of widget or component that you want to add to your website, then you can do so using the Widgets plugin. Alternatively, you can find a premium plugin that has the specific element you’re looking for and pay for its use.
The truth is, you don’t need to run out and purchase all of these plugins right away. Instead, you can use the dashboard opt-in box that’s located just beneath the theme selection box. This box allows you to subscribe to WordPress plugins that will be useful to you as they are released. As a result, you’ll be able to add many of the functions listed above without having to spend a dime.
In addition to all of the plugins described above, you’ll need to use the Google Analytics plugin to track the traffic on your website. In case you’re wondering, you can get the Google Analytics plugin for free from the WordPress plugins directory. Just visit the directory, select “Install”, and follow the instructions. You’ll then be able to track the traffic on your site using this free plugin.
Content
If you’re writing this article then it means that you either A) already have a blog that you’ve been meaning to update with new content or B) have a blog and are looking for ways to improve your content’s efficiency.
If you fall into the former category, then you can use the above-described Shopify blog reader to post new content to your blog without having to go through the hassle of setting it up yourself. You’ll then need to decide which blog platform you want to use – WordPress or Blogger – and which one you prefer – tableless or with tables.
If you’re writing for the latter category, then you have two major options. You can either use a free blog platform like WordPress or Blogger to write and publish your content, or you can use a premium blogging platform like Shopify.
As a general rule, I’d say that if you’re looking for a way to quickly and easily get your content out there then a free blogging platform is your best bet. On the other hand, if you want to fully customize the way your content is displayed and want to have full control over all of the elements, then a premium blogging platform is the way to go. In general, when deciding which blogging platform to use, you should look at the following criteria:
