Why Is My WordPress Website Showing Space on the Sides?
So you’ve launched a new blog. You’ve written a couple of articles, shared them with your friends and now you’re wondering, “When will people start reading my blog?”
Don’t get discouraged. While it might take time for your fans to discover your work, you can bet that every single person on the planet will know about your blog and probably enjoy reading it. That’s because blogs are truly universal. Anyone can write one. It doesn’t have to be fancy. In fact, the simpler the better. The beauty of a blog is that it’s easy to update.
But sometimes, despite your best efforts, things don’t work out the way you expect them to. That’s when you have to ask yourself some tough questions, such as, “Why is my blog showing up on the side when I post?”
Here are some possible answers to help you figure out what’s going on.
Did Something Go Wrong With My Impressions?
Sometimes, after you upload a new blog post, you’ll notice that some of the sidebars aren’t aligned properly with the post. The good news is that this is a simple fix. All you need to do is click on the small arrow next to the “view thumbnail” button and then choose “straight up” from the drop-down menu.
Alternatively, if you’re an experienced WordPress user, you can click on the “Edit” tab at the top of your blog’s page and then choose “HTML” from the dropdown menu in the “content: ” field. Doing this will cause your blog to reload and the sidebars to reappear in the proper alignment. Once everything is formatted correctly, hit the “Publish” button to make your blog post live on the Internet.
Do I Need to Adjust the Size of My Sidebars?
When you set up your blog with WordPress, the default sizes for your sidebars are “fixed” widths (in pixels) which means that no matter what size your browser is, the width of your sidebars will always be the same. This can be a little limiting if you want to create a really fancy-looking blog with big, eye-catching sidebars because if the width of your browser window changes, the size of your sidebars will change as well.
Fortunately, there is an easy fix for this. When you’re on your blog’s page, click on the three bars at the top of the page and then select “Settings” from the drop-down menu. Doing this will bring you to your blog’s Settings panel where you can change the size of your sidebars directly from here.
Did Someone Else Steal My Blog Post?
One of the biggest concerns whenever you launch a new blog is wondering whether or not someone else has already stolen your idea and posted it on their site without attribution. This happens a lot more often than you would think. People who copy and paste other people’s content without giving them proper credit are usually really motivated by cash, so it’s no wonder that your post appeared on dozens of other blogs before it even appeared on your own.
Fortunately, things like content theft are easily preventable. The best way to do this is to register your blog with a domain parking service such as WordPress.com. Doing this will stop your content from being stolen by forcing anyone who wants to steal it to go through your site instead of the parked domain itself. If you ever want to republish any content from WordPress.com, simply go to your blog’s dashboard on WordPress.com and click on the “Publish” button next to the post you want to republish. Doing this will automatically give you credit for the content and prevent anyone from stealing it. As a security measure, WordPress.com also prevents content from being viewed if the person viewing the site is not signed in or is using a private browser.
Do I Need To Set Up An Aligner Tool To Make My Sidebars Look Perfect?
If you’re using an HTML editor, such as WordPress.com, to create your blog posts, there is a handy little tool that helps you easily align your sidebars on each post. The tool makes it super easy to create a perfectly aligned sidebars on each post. Simply click on the small arrow next to the “view thumbnail” button and then select “straight up” from the drop-down menu to make the sidebars appear in the correct alignment.
However, if you don’t want to use an HTML editor or you’re using a WordPress-specific one, such as Elegant Themes, there is no aligner tool and you’ll have to do this manually. Luckily, it’s not that difficult. When you’re on the post’s page, click on the three bars at the top of the page and then select “Settings” from the drop-down menu. Doing this will bring you to your blog’s Settings panel where you can set the alignment on each post directly from here.
Why Aren’t My Posts Showing Up In The Right Order On My Homepage?
If you’re using the Hello Fresh free membership to host your blog, you’ll notice that whenever you visit your blog’s homepage, the posts aren’t displayed in the same order as they are on your blog’s page. This is because the posts are sorted by “date” rather than “post date” which means that the most recent post is displayed on top. You can change this ordering by selecting the “post date” option in the drop-down menu next to the “visit homepage” link on your blog’s Settings panel.
