How to Add Files to a WordPress Website Without Creating a Blog

WordPress started as a simple blogging software, but it grew to become a full-fledged content management system (CMS). While WordPress is still mostly used for blogging, it can be used to create various types of websites with rich content. Even if you’re not a writer, you can still use WordPress to create and manage your business’ website. In this article, we’ll discuss some simple tips on how to add files to a WordPress website without creating a blog. As you might imagine, having a blog on your site isn’t necessary for adding additional files. This technique can be used for adding documents, videos, and other types of content that you would like to keep on your site without having to constantly update a blog post.

Create a Folder For the Additional Files

To add files to a WordPress website, you’ll need to first create a folder on your server named wp-content. This is where WordPress stores files such as images, videos, and other documents. If you’ve installed WordPress on a domain name, go to that domain name and click on the wp-content folder. This will give you the option to create a new folder named whatever you want.

Once you’ve created a folder on your server, you can start adding files to it directly from your computer. To do this, navigate to your computer and create a folder named wp-content on the desktop. Inside of this folder, you’ll want to place a text document. This is the so-called.xml file that contains the information about your site. For example, if you’ve installed WordPress on a school website, the.xml file might contain the email addresses of students and staff along with some other information. You can also add a photo album to the folder to make it easy for users to find and enjoy your photos.

Add the Files to Your WordPress Site’s Files

The next step is to actually add the files you’ve just collected to your WordPress site. To do this, navigate to the wp-content folder on your computer. Alternatively, you can use an FTP client to connect to your server and simply drag and drop the files in the correct location. Either way, you’ll want to verify that the files have uploaded successfully to your WordPress site.

Activate the Plugin That Allows for File Additions

Once you’ve uploaded all the files to your WordPress site, you can verify that they’ve all uploaded successfully by going to your site’s dashboard and looking at the File Manager. This is where you’ll see all of your site’s files including images, documents, and other types of content. You can use this plugin to manage files directly from your WordPress site’s dashboard.

Create a Shortcode for a Folder

If you want to add more files to your site, you can create a shortcode that can be used to create a folder. For example, you might want to create a button that allows users to quickly create a new folder and add existing files to it. To create a shortcode for a folder, navigate to your WordPress dashboard and click on the Settings button. From here, you can click on the Shortcuts button to view all of your site’s available shortcuts. You can use this button to add a new button to your site’s WordPress header or use an existing one.

Configure the Button Shortcode

After creating a folder shortcode, you can configure it by going back to your WordPress dashboard’s Settings and clicking on Shortcuts. Here, you’ll see a list of all the shortcodes available for use on your site. Use this window to select the shortcode you want to use to create the folder and add files to it. Once you’ve selected the shortcode, simply copy and paste it into your WordPress site’s header area. You’ll see the folder you created when you log in to WordPress next time.

Configure Permissions

WordPress gives you the option to control who has access to your site’s content and files. To add additional users, you can do this from your WordPress dashboard’s Settings. Click on the General tab and then on the drop-down menu next to the User Role heading. Select the role you want to give the user and click on Set Role to add the user to the roles assigned to the group.

Here, you can also control what type of content each user is allowed to see. If you want to give certain users access to certain content, while keeping others away from sensitive information, you can use this option. For example, you might want to give the user who owns the school website ftp access to the content inside the wp-content folder, while keeping other users away from this folder’s content. To do this, go to Settings and click on the Permissions button. From here, you can add and configure permissions for different user roles.

Monitor File Size Restrictions

WordPress has a limit to the amount of data that can be uploaded to a site. This is called the file size restriction. The best practice is to keep your uploads under this limit. However, once you’ve reached this limit, you’ll need to reduce the size of one of your files before you try to upload another. You can find links to WordPress’s FAQ and support pages for more information. If you’re not sure how big a file is too big, simply look at your hosting provider’s specifications for the amount of data that can be stored on your server.

Avoid the Use of Absolute URLs

When adding files to your site, you should always use relative URLs instead of absolute ones. This will make sure that your site’s content is accessible even if someone deletes or moves the files you’re using. An absolute URL is tied to a specific location on the Internet and will break if this location changes. While this might not be a problem for blogs and other sites that are simply meant to be read by people in the same country, it can be a huge problem for sites that allow for people from all over the world to read and interact with the content.

Use of Categories

It’s best to use categories when organizing your files inside of a WordPress site. This will make it easy for visitors to find what they’re looking for. Instead of having a hundred folders inside of your wp-content folder, you can use categories to organize your files into smaller groups.

Use Tags

While categories can be helpful in organizing your files, you should also take advantage of tags. These are little keywords or phrases that you can use to mark and search for specific items inside of your files. For example, you might want to use the phrase “classroom management” as a tag for all of the documents you’ve created for your class site.

You can use WordPress’s built-in search engine to search for any items you’ve tagged with specific keywords or phrases. For example, if you’ve used terms like “classroom management,” you’ll see all of the documents you’ve created for your class site when you use the search bar.

Keep Your Site’s Content Up-to-date

As we’ve established, WordPress is a content management system and updates are a constant threat. You never know when a new security threat will arise or a WordPress update will break your site’s functionality. To keep your site’s content up-to-date, you should always use the security updates that WordPress provides or use a third-party plugin that monitors and updates your site’s software automatically.

Use of Language To Craft A Better Website Experience

While we can’t always control how other people will use our content, we can always ensure that our language is clean and precise. When crafting blog posts and other types of content for a website, you want to make sure that the content is easy to understand. Instead of using words like “blog” and “weblog,” which can be difficult to understand for non-native English speaking readers, you can use the words “blog article” and “excerpt” instead. Additionally, you should use words that are relevant to your target audience to ensure that they understand what you’re saying.

Keep Your Content Creative

If you’re writing for an audience that’s larger than just your website’s visitors, you want to make sure that your content is interesting. To do this, you want to make sure that you have some variety of content on your site. If you notice, most big blogging platforms rotate through a variety of posts on any given day. However, while this might seem like a good idea in theory, it can be difficult to write something unique and interesting on a daily basis. When you do have content that’s unique and interesting, you’ll be able to tell because it will stand out among the rest of your content.
