How to Create a Religious Website in WordPress

Creating a religious or inspirational website isn’t as difficult as you might think. In fact, with the right tools, you can build a completely functional site in less than an hour. Let’s take a look at how you can do this.

Find Your Niche

One of the first steps to setting up a religious website is to identify your niche. What is your niche?

The answer to this question will determine the kind of content you should be creating and posting on your site. When you have identified your niche, you can determine the kind of user base you will be attracting. For example, if your niche is Christian music, your website content will mostly consist of Christian songs. You can also identify common words and phrases used by people in your niche and incorporate these into your content.

You don’t want your audience to have to search for the information they are looking for. If you can, you should make sure all your content is easily accessible from the homepage.

Start With A Name

Naming your website is important. You would never post something called ‘The ugly stepsister’s guide to fashion’ on your regular blog. So why would you post something like that on your religious website? Use your niche to help you find the perfect name for your site. If you are looking for a Christian name, try taking some time to browse the Bible. You can also ask other Christians around you for their opinion.

Pick Your Host

There are a number of different companies that offer hosting, WordPress, and a range of other services to businesses and individuals. When it comes to choosing the right web host for your site, consider the following:

• The cost of the service
• The amount of bandwidth (data transfer speed)
• How many sites can you host on the server
• Whether you need a dedicated IP address (a unique online address that cannot be accessed from the internet)
• How much do you want to spend on domain names
• Whether you need e-commerce functionality (you can use a free WordPress plugin such as WP-Simple-ECommerce to get started)
• How much do you want to spend on marketing (SEM, SEO, pay-per-click (PPC))
• How much do you want to spend on keeping the website alive (keeping your site up to date and responsive)

Understand The Terms And Conditions

You must understand the terms and conditions of the contract you enter into with your web host. These contractual obligations are usually found in the terms and conditions section of your hosting agreement. Be sure to read this section carefully so you understand what your responsibilities are as a customer. Your web host may also have additional terms and conditions that you must follow. You should not assume that just because someone is providing you with a free trial or discounted rates that you have permission to abuse the services. You will likely have to pay for at least the first year of your hosting plan after you signed up. Make sure you notify them immediately if you have any problems with the services (such as billing inquiries).

Install WordPress

Installing WordPress is pretty easy. You can download it from WordPress.com’s website. Once you have downloaded the WordPress software, you will have to install it on your computer. After you have installed WordPress on your computer, you will have to login and set your password. You will then be able to visit WordPress.com to create your free blog. You will see a big green ‘Create a new blog’ button at the top of the homepage.

Customize Your Blog’s Theme

When you click on the ‘Create a new blog’ button at the top of WordPress.com, you will be taken to the dashboard. From here, you can choose a blog theme that will completely change the look of your blog.

Choosing a theme for your blog is very easy. Simply click on the ‘Themes’ link in the dashboard, and then click on the ‘Search Themes’ button near the top of the page. When you click on a theme’s detail, you will see information about the theme along with a few sample posts. In order to use the theme, you will have to download it to your computer.

Add Content

After you have chosen a blog theme, you will need to populate it with content. You can do this by using the built-in ‘Add New’ button on the blog dashboard. When you click on this button, you will be taken to a page titled ‘Add New’.

On this page, you will see a category called ‘Posts’ at the top. In this category, you can find a form with the title ‘New Post’. You can use the ‘New Post’ form to easily add content to your blog. When you fill out this form, you will see a drop-down menu appear below it with the names of different blogging platforms. You can choose from WordPress, TypePad, or Google Blogger to name a few.

If you choose to publish your content on WordPress, the setup process will be very easy. You will simply have to follow the on-screen instructions to input your content and then click on the ‘Publish’ button.

Get A Domain

Once you have a blog set up on WordPress, you can purchase a domain name from any web host. A domain name is a bit like a web address (like ‘theluckycoast.com’) that is unique to your website. The main difference is that when someone types in the domain name (i.e. ‘theluckycoast.com’) into their browser, they will be directed to your specific blog. For example, if you have a blog about fashion, you can purchase the domain name ‘theluckycoast.com’ and use it to point to your blog.

Set Up Email Accounts

If you are using WordPress, you can set up email accounts from within the dashboard. Simply click on the ‘Users’ link in the dashboard and then click on the ‘Add New’ button near the top of the page. Once you have added a new user (i.e. an email account), you can set up a password for the account. This will allow your users to send you emails easily from the WordPress platform. You can choose whether or not to allow the user to register posts for you as well (called ‘Broadcast’ in WordPress parlance).

Link To Your Social Media Accounts

If you have a Twitter account, you can link it to your blog. All you have to do is go to WordPress.com and log in. Once you are logged in, you will see a link to your Twitter account at the top of the page. Simply click on this link and then click on the ‘Create a new Twitter account’ button.

If you have a Facebook account, you can link it to your blog. All you have to do is go to WordPress.com and log in. Once you are logged in, you will see a link to your Facebook page at the top of the page. Simply click on this link and then click on the ‘Create a new Facebook account’ button.

Taking the time to create a religious website from scratch isn’t difficult. All you need are the right tools, some inspiration, and a willingness to put in the work.
