WordPress UTC Time Messed Up Website – How to Fix It?

WordPress is the most popular blogging platform, which means it’s the perfect place for creating a website.

But if you use the wrong tool for the job, it can cause major problems. In this article, we’ll discuss how to fix a WordPress UTC time messed up website. This issue can arise when the server and/or the client’s computer uses a different time zone, causing problems with posting, creating, and/or editing content.

Check The Server’s Timezone

One of the first things you should do to fix a WordPress UTC time messed up website is to make sure that the server’s timezone is set correctly. If it’s not, your posts will be marked as “unpublished” until you change it. So, if you’re setting up a news website and your server’s timezone is in Mountain Time, all of your editorial content will be displayed as though it was posted at 12:00 AM on January 1st instead of October 6th. That is, unless you manually change the time on your posts and/or comments before publishing, in which case, they will be posted at their actual time.

To set the timezone on your server, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to your server’s IP address in a web browser. For example, if the IP address is 168.1.1.1, you’ll be on WordPress’s home page.
  • Click the **i** icon at the top right of the browser window.
  • Click **Settings** in the dropdown menu.
  • Choose **General** under **Settings**
  • Scroll down and locate the **Timezone** option.
  • Change the timezone to match your location.
  • Click **Save Changes**.

Check The Client’s Computer Timezone

Another thing you should check before you publish your website is whether or not the client’s computer uses a different timezone setting than your server. If it does, when your client clicks **submit** on the form to post news, the post will be submitted at the wrong time. Just what they were trying to avoid!

To fix this, you’ll need to either adjust their computer’s timezone (Settings > Timezone) or change their phone clock (Settings > Date & Time). Just make sure you’re consistent when fixing either one of these issues, as it will be difficult to track what changes which.

Adjust The Server’s Timezone If Necessary

If your server’s timezone doesn’t match the timezone of your client’s computer, you’ll need to adjust it. To do this, navigate to

  • Your server’s IP address
  • In a web browser, open a webpage that allows you to edit the server’s timezone setting
  • Click the **i** icon at the top right of the browser window
  • Click **Settings** in the dropdown menu
  • Choose **General** under **Settings**
  • Scroll down and locate the **Timezone** option
  • Change the timezone to match your location
  • Click **Save Changes**

If you’ve already chosen a timezone but the server’s settings still say **UTC**, you can choose **GMT +00:00** under **UTC** to set your timezone to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) so all of your content will display as though it was posted at the correct time. You can find more details about this at
