How to Build a WordPress Website in Less Than One Hour?

Whether you are a seasoned professional or a hobbyist, building a web presence from scratch can be a challenging task. Thanks to the rise of content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, creating a new site from scratch has become a lot easier. In this article, we will discuss how to build a WordPress website in under an hour, step-by-step.

Pick A CMS

As the name suggests, a CMS (content management system) allows you to efficiently manage and update content on your website. There are plenty of options out there; however, not all of them are created equal. To save you the effort and heartache, we have compiled a list of tips that will help you find the best, cleanest, and most secure CMS for your needs.

Secure

One of the primary concerns when launching a new site is making sure that it is as secure as possible. After all, you are exposing your valuable content to the entire world (or at least the Internet). To best protect your site, you need to implement a strong, well-maintained security system. Fortunately, there are solutions out there to make sure that your new site is as secure as possible. For example, you can use a free SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt to securely lock down your site and implement the highest level of encryption. With Let’s Encrypt, all you need to do is setup a simple cron job to renew your SSL Certificate every 365 days.

User-Friendly

Your users will be spending a lot of time on your site, so it is important that it is as easy-to-use and user-friendly as possible. When designing your new website, you should strive to make it as accessible as possible. One of the best things that a CMS can do is make editing content a fun and a meaningful process. After all, it is much easier for users to enjoy themselves while editing content rather than trying to do so on their own. There are many features within WordPress that can enhance the user experience, from automatically generating SEO-friendly content to creating beautiful, immersive panoramas for your visitors to enjoy.

Extensive Documentation

One of the main reasons why people use WordPress is because of the extensive documentation. Not only does WordPress have an amazing community built around it, but the platform is extremely versatile and provides countless features that you can implement on your site. If you are ever stuck or need some help, you can turn to the documentation for the answer. In addition, whenever there is new functionality added to WordPress, the documentation is updated to reflect the changes.

Features

Every web-based CMS has features, but not all of them are created equal. At the end of the day, you need to pick a CMS that has the features that you are looking for. When selecting features, it is important to keep in mind that some may require a professional or advanced level of expertise to use effectively. In addition, you must also consider the cost of the feature.

Back-end

Every CMS, including WordPress, has a back-end that allows you to manage content and features of your site. In most cases, the back-end is a highly-secure area of your site that handles everything from content uploads to setting advanced options for your site. If you are looking for a free and open source CMS that is easy to use, you can check out WordPress.

Database Management

If you are looking for a CMS that can efficiently manage and update content on your site, then you should check out WordPress. Thanks to its built-in database and backup utilities, WordPress can efficiently handle the most complex of database challenges.

Mobility

If you are looking for a CMS that supports different devices and platforms, then you should consider WordPress. Thanks to its mobile-friendly design and the various device support, WordPress can provide a good experience for users regardless of whether they are on the go or at home.

As you can see, there are many reasons why WordPress is a great choice among site builders. Not only can it be used for free, but it also has all the features that a professional might need. In the next section, we will walk you through the steps to build a WordPress website in under an hour.

Step 1: Log In to Your WordPress Account

The first step in building a WordPress website is logging in to your account. In order to do this, visit https://wordpress.com and click on the Log In button. This will take you to your WordPress dashboard, where you can click on the Login button located at the top of the page.

You will then be presented with the dashboard, where you can click on the Users link to manage users (if you have multiple users).

In our case, we are going to create a new user called johnny with the usual default settings (his username is going to be his first and last name, and he is going to use a simple password).

Step 2: Upload A Theme

Now that you are logged in to your WordPress account, you can click on the Themes link located at the top of the dashboard. This will take you to your WordPress Themes directory, where you can click on the Install Themes button. You can install the theme that you need for the design of your site.

In our case, we are going to use the TwentyFour theme by Automattic, which is a free and open source theme designed for creating a professional-looking blog or website. Once you have installed the theme, you can activate it by clicking on the Activate button at the top of the screen.

As soon as you activate the theme, you will be presented with a preview of your site so you can see how it looks.

Step 3: Edit The Default Settings

Now that you have activated the theme, you can click on the Settings link located at the top of the dashboard. This will take you to your WordPress Settings directory, where you can click on the Reading tab. Here, you can change the settings for WordPress, including your site’s name, description, and the language that is going to be used throughout your site. You can read more about the Reading tab at https://codex.wordpress.org/Reading. In our case, let’s edit the name of our site to be My awesome new website and click on the Save Changes button.

Next, we will click on the Websites link at the top of the Settings directory to manage all of our sites. Here, you can see all of the sites that you have created with WordPress, including our new site. We can click on the My awesome new website link to get to our dashboard.

Step 4: Set Up A Homepage

Now that you are back on the dashboard, you can click on the Add New Website button to create a new website. Give this new site a meaningful title (we suggest using your company’s name or website’s name) and choose a nice, clean template that you are happy with. Next, you can choose a featured image for your home page and click on the Save Changes button.

You will then be taken to your website’s homepage, where you can click on the Read More button to enjoy the details of what you have set up.

Step 5: Add Some Content

Now that you have set up your homepage, you can start adding content to it. You can click on the Add New button located at the end of the Reading area to create a new post.

To add content to your homepage, click on the New Post tab located at the top of your dashboard. This will take you to your content directory, where you can begin typing content for your next post.
